Eyelid Surgery
Puffy or droopy eyelids can be caused by fat deposits, excess skin or a combination of both. Dr. Fox will evaluate the specific steps that will bring about the best results for you. If for example, you have drooping eyelids cause only by excess skin Dr. Fox will remove the excess skin. Alternately, if your eyelids are puffy because of fat deposits Dr. Fox will first remove the fat deposits then he will remove the excess skin.
Dr. Fox will make incisions along the line creases of the upper eyelid and, if appropriate, along the outer lower rim of the skin around the eye. If fatty tissue needs to be removed, but no excess skin, Dr. Fox may perform a transconjunctival blepharoplasty with an incision inside the lower rim of the eye’s skin. These incisions often reach the outer corners of the eyes. Dr. Fox will then separate the fatty tissue and muscle from the skin so that excess skin, fat or muscle can be removed.
Depending on the extent of the procedure you may be in surgery up to three hours. The surgery will normally be performed in an outpatient surgery center and you will go home directly after the surgery. Your eyes will normally be lubricated and bandaged. You will receive written instructions on how to care for your surgical site and a few days after surgery you will be seen in the office to monitor your healing.
