Breast Augmentation (Mammaplasty)
There are several surgical approaches used to insert breast implants. The approach used for your surgery is dependent on the type and size of your implants and whether you are having any other breast surgery, in addition to the implants.
In most instances Dr. Fox makes an incision at the fold under the breast (Inframammary incision). This approach minimizes the appearance of the incision after it has healed.
Another approach that Dr. Fox uses for saline implants is making a small incision just under the areola (Periareolar Incision), the area around the nipple. This approach is available for saline implants since they are implanted empty and filled with saline after they are implanted.
Occasionally, if requested by the client and if surgically appropriate Dr. Fox will insert the implant through an incision in the arm pit (Transaxillary Incision).
Once the incision is made Dr. Fox makes a pocket for the implant. This pocket can be either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath the pectoral muscle which is located between the breast tissue and chest wall.
